If you have played Red Dead Redemption 2 before getting into Red Dead Online, you will know what the Wilderness Camp is. For new players, however, you will quickly learn that it should be one of your most-used features in the game. It basically lets you reset and find your bearings after an intense adventure.
Once you get away from civilization, you should be able to set up camp in the wilderness. A Wilderness Camp allows you to craft items like crafted ammunition, tonics, and other accessories. You can also choose to just rest in your tent to recover health and stamina after a shootout or chase.
Another important feature that is available in the Wilderness Camp is cooking food. Food is a necessity in Red Dead Online. It can also get quite expensive very quickly if you opt to buy food from stores all the time. To counter this, you will want to hunt games and cook them in your Wilderness Camp. How to Set Up Wilderness Camp
Unlocking the Wilderness Camp in Red Dead Online
The first thing you need to do is begin the Naturalist role. You will need at least rank 5 as a Naturalist to be able to unlock the Wilderness Camp. Head over to the Welcome Center in the town of Strawberry and look for Harriet Davenport and Gus MacMillan.
They should give you several missions. Do these consistently until you level up to rank 5 in the Naturalist specialty. Once you get there, you should be able to unlock the Wilderness Camp in Harriet Davenport’s shop. This will cost you $750 and two role tokens, so make sure you have enough of both before going to Harriet’s camp.
Setting Up the Wilderness Camp
Setting up the Wilderness Camp in Red Dead Online is exactly the same as in Red Dead Redemption 2. You just have to open your weapon wheel normally and switch over to your Items tab. At the bottom of the wheel, you should see the Wilderness Camp option.
Just choose that option, and you should automatically set up camp in the nearest available location. You will not be able to select the Wilderness Camp option if you are in town, being chased by enemies, wanted by authorities, or are on a live mission.
Do Not Stray Too Far
Once you have set up camp, you can leave it anytime to roam around. However, straying too far away from camp will instantly despawn it. You will then have to set it up again, which may happen at a different location. If you already like your camp’s location, try not to move too far away from it at any point.
