How to Beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring

Do you need to beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring?

Optional bosses in Elden Ring offer players the chance to test their skills in exchange for valuable rewards should they succeed. While these enemies are not required to progress your gameplay, they offer challenges to see where your character is currently at.

In truth, many of these optional bosses in Elden Ring rival some of the game’s primary bosses when it comes to difficulty.

One such boss is the Ulcerated Tree Spirit.

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a malformed and corrupted creature that resembles Erdtrees found throughout the Lands Between. Players who accidentally come across this optional boss will quickly learn the danger it poses.

Having erratic movements and powerful attacks, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit proves to be an encounter that rivals the loathsome Godrick the Grafted in terms of strength.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring.

Let’s get started!

Finding the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

There are two Ulcerated Tree Spirits in Elden Ring. Each appears in a different location and boasts notable differences, mainly in power.

First Ulcerated Tree Spirit

The earlier Ulcerated Tree Spirit that you’ll face resides in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave in Limgrave. To get to this dungeon, players will need to explore the Stranded Graveyard. Within, they will come across an Imp Statue that needs two Stonesword Keys to unlock.

Once unlocked, the Tarnished will gain access to the Fringefold Hero’s Grave and the first Ulcerated Tree Spirit’s lair.

However, this variant of the Tree Spirit is noticeably weaker than the other, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t pose any threat. In fact, this variant of the Ulcerated Tree Spirit poses a more arduous threat than Godrick the Grafted.

Second Ulcerated Tree Spirit

The later Ulcerated Tree Spirit that you’ll face will appear in the Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs in Mountaintops of the Giants. Reaching this area requires players to trek through the heights of this region, only accessible through a specific path.

By following the narrow path south of Stargaze’s Ruins, players can reach the upper areas of Mountaintops of the Giants.

Within this area, players can find the Ulcerated Tree Spirit’s lair. This variant is far stronger than the first, featuring better statistics overall. In truth, this Ulcerated Tree Spirit proves to be a more challenging optional boss.

Boss Encounter

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit’s greatest strength is its unpredictable and devastating attacks. The combination and patterns of its attacks are extremely irregular, making them difficult to anticipate and dodge.

Unfortunately, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit doesn’t give much away about its next move, leaving players second-guessing when to evade its attacks or continue hitting.

Besides, players must face this towering boss in a comparatively small room, which results to even more challenges. There are some opportunities for players to take advantage of, so long as they are careful and quick.

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit encounter has two phases. For its first phase, it utilizes brute strength, while the other predominantly uses widespread holy-based attacks.

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit reaches its next stage when only â…— of its HP are remaining. This causes the boss to unleash a flurry of holy fire that deals extremely powerful damage. During this phase, the boss’ attacks become wreathed in holy fire, making all of its previous moves even more devastating.
