How to Trap Animals in Dinkum

Want to know how you can trap animals in Dinkum?

Dinkum is a farming simulator created by James Bendon. The game is well-designed and has a lot of depth and detail to it. While playing it, you’ll see a lot of resemblances between Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.

Dinkum allows you to do everything you’d expect from a farming simulator, such as chopping trees, mining, taming animals, fishing, and planting crops.

The game features a unique license system and is based in Australia. This adds a special touch to it, which separates it from other games in the same genre. Trapping animals in Dinkum can be tricky since every animal has its own mechanic and requires special attention.

If you are having a hard time trapping animals on your island, you have come to the right place.

In this guide, we will show you how to trap animals in Dinkum.

Let’s get started!

Unlock Traps

The first step to unlocking traps in Dinkum is to speak with Fletch about a Trapping License. This should cost you 500 Permit Points, so make sure you stock up on them first. Once you’ve acquired the license, you’ll get the blueprints for a Simply Animal Trap and an Animal Collection Point.

To craft these items, go to your Crafting Table with eight Mangrove Sticks, a Tin Bar, and one Old Spring. This should be enough to get you a Simple Animal Trap.

For the Animal Collection Point, you’ll need two Palm Wood Planks, two Hard Wood Plank, and one Nail.

However, you’ll only be able to chop hardwood trees after you get a copper Axe. Due to this, trapping animals in Dinkum comes fairly late in the game or in the late middle stages of your gameplay.

Once you’ve trapped an animal, you’ll have to deliver them to the Collection Point, or they’ll escape.

After being delivered, they’ll fly up in the sky, and the trap will be returned to your mail the next day with some Dinks depending on the animal you’ve caught. After acquiring the traps, you’ll also need some food for specific animals.

Scrub Turkey, Kidna, and Diggo

Diggo and Kidna aren’t hostile to your character at the start. If you attack a Kidna, it will fight you back, but the Diggo doesn’t fight back no matter what you do. Due to this, Diggo and Kidna are among the easiest animals to catch.

Scrub Turkey

On the other hand, Scrub Turkey will try to run away from you when you get close, but they are not hostile as well.

To trap these creatures, walk up to them and place the trap on their path. Now, all you need to do is hope that they run into it and get trapped.

Scrub Turkeys don’t struggle too much and can be carried for long distances inside the trap. However, Diggo and Kidna struggle out very fast even from a stronger Animal Trap. Due to this, you’ll have to ensure that you have a Collection Point nearby.

Magpie

Dinkum has two kinds of birds, and Magpie is one of them. This is the brownish-colored bird that you can find hanging around certain areas. The process of capturing the Magpie is special since you have to bait them in.

When you see a Magpie, get a bit close to it and place the trap on the ground. Now, bait the bird by placing any kind of meat. Walk a few miles away from the trap afterward and wait for the bird to fly into the trap.

Most of the time, you’ll also get the meat back once you’ve captured the Magpie.

Croco and Bush Devil

Croco and Bush Devil are likely the most dangerous creatures to trap in Dinkum. This is because they are very hostile and will attack you on sight. However, their aggressiveness is what you’ll use against them while trapping.

When trapping a Bush Devil and Croco, it is essential to have a nearby Collection Point since they struggle a lot once captured.

When you spot a Croco or Bush Devil, place the trap near the Collection Point and go near the animals to lure them towards you. Once they follow you, bring them to the trap and make them run into it.

Once the animals are trapped, put them into the Collection Point before they break out of it.

Jackaroo

Jackaroos is one of the most annoying animals to trap since they run away fast as you get anywhere near them. However, things become simpler if you can craft multiple Animal Traps in one go.

When you spot a Jackaroo, put two to three traps in a straight line and rotate around to the other side of the animal.

Now, ensure that you have a safe distance from it, so it doesn’t run away. After that, run towards them from that direction, so they have to run towards your traps and get captured.

Mu and Warry Mu

Mu and Wary Mu are different versions of the same animal, and they are found in different places. Mu can be found on deserts, bushlands, or beaches, while a Wary Mu is found in Pine Forests. Their behavior also differs quite a lot from each other.

A normal Mu is brown, and it is not hostile to the players at all. Similar to Diggo, these animals exist near you. They won’t run away from you as well, making it easier for you to trap them.

To trap a Mu, you’ll need to place a trap in its path, and it should run into it. With the size of this animal, you’d think that a stronger Animal Trap is better to capture them. However, this is not the case at all.

If you use a white Animal Trap for a normal Mu, it will struggle and break out of it quickly. On the other hand, if you trap them using a Simple Animal Trap, they won’t struggle at all.

Meanwhile, Warry Mu is extremely hostile to players and will follow you for a long time once you aggro it. To trap a Warry Mu, make them follow you and run them into a trap placed near the Collection Point.

Cockatoo

The Cockatoo is an elegant white bird on the horizon of Dinkum. They are also the hardest animal in the game to trap due to their special food preference. These birds are also very smart creatures that are well aware of their surroundings.

To trap a Cockatoo, you’ll need Grass Seeds and the White Animal Trap. If you have a Simple Animal Trap, they will just walk up to the trap and eat the seeds without triggering the trap.

Once you’ve acquired the items, find a Cockatoo and get a little close to them. Now, place the Animal Trap down and put a Grass Seed in it. Run away from the trap and wait for the bird to land on it.
