Fortunately, thanking the bus driver in Fortnite Island is a simple task! If you want to show courtesy before jumping off, you simply need to press the button you’ve assigned to bring up the Emotes wheel. 

Of course, you’ll also still need to be inside the bus to do this. 

While the assigned button may vary depending on your configuration, here are the default keys for the Emotes wheel on different platforms: 

• Playstation 4 & Playstation 5 – Press the Down button on the D-pad 
• Xbox One, Xbox One X/S – Tap the Down button on the D-pad
• Nintendo Switch – Down button on the Directional Pad
• PC – Press the ‘B’ key on your keyboard
• Mobile/Tablet – hit the Emote button on your screen 

If you’ve jumped off before pressing the Emote button, you won’t be able to thank the bus driver in Fortnite. You have to wait for the next game to have the opportunity to show some courtesy for our ever-reliable driver. 

A notification or prompt will appear on the chatbox once you’ve successfully thanked the bus driver. 

What Happens When You Thank the Bus Driver

Showing courtesy to the bus driver in Fortnite is a simple Easter Egg that was implemented by Epic Games around 2018. Unfortunately, it doesn’t give you items, perks, or any competitive advantage against other players. 

You can do it as a ritual, though, to bring some luck to your game. 

Besides being an Easter Egg, thanking the bus driver could also be included as a task to complete various quests in Fortnite Island. Due to this, you’ll have to thank the bus driver at some point if you want to advance your quest and overall progress. 

Change Key Bindings on Fortnite PC

If you don’t know the assigned Emote key on your PC, follow the steps below to change your key bindings on Fortnite Battle Royale: 

1. While in game, press the Menu icon. If your game has started, hit the ESC key to bring up the menu. 
2. Now, go to the Settings and navigate to the Input section. 
3. Finally, locate the Quick Chat / Emote section and see which key is assigned. While in there, you can also change your configuration based on your preference. 

Once done, wait for another game and see if you can now thank the bus driver.
