How to Save Your Progress in Elden Ring

Want to know how you can save your progress in Elden Ring?

Having similar roots to other FromSoftware games, Elden Ring is a game with a very high degree of difficulty. Although tutorial screens pop up at the start of the game, they don’t teach you everything in the game.

Basically, the tutorial only teaches you how to navigate the interface and basic controls. Beyond that, you’re on your own.

One of the crucial parts of any game is saving your progress.

For a game that involves a lot of traveling, farming, and defeating difficult bosses, making sure that your progress is saved is crucial. And if you’re reading this, we can assume that you’re worried about your progress in Elden Ring.

For seasoned Souls players, this shouldn’t be a problem.

However, if you’re new to Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games, you might have no idea how to save your progress.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide on how to save your progress in Elden Ring.

Let’s get right into it!

How to Save in Elden Ring

If you’re used to or familiar with recent FromSoftware titles, you probably know that there is no way to manually save game progress in Elden Ring. As it turns out, the game automatically saves your progress every few minutes when you accomplish something important, kill a major boss, or when collecting items or Runes.

Besides that, the only real way to trigger the autosave feature is to visit a Site of Lost Grace, which works similarly to Bonfires in Dark Souls.

Sites of Grace in Elden Ring are basically checkpoints, and once players sit down at one, a few sequences happen. First, their HP and Focus Points will be restored, Sacred Flasks will be refilled, and defeated enemies will respawn.

You can also perform a few tasks on any Site of Grace, which include controlling the time of day, leveling up your character using Runes, sorting through your chest, and several other options.

To ensure that your Elden Ring progress is saved, the best thing to do is go to a Site of Lost Grace and quit the game from the menu. This should save your game and boot you back to the title menu.

Once you return, you should spawn at the Site of Grace you sit on or access.

Can You Pause in Elden Ring?

In between gaming sessions, you’ll probably need to pause your game to drink water, get some food, or run a quick errand. Unfortunately, there is no direct or official way to pause your game in Elden Ring.

However, if you sit at any Site of Lost Grace, you should be safe from being attacked by hostile NPCs. However, keep in mind that you cannot access a Site of Grace if you’re being attacked.

Even if you try to go offline, you’ll still be unable to pause the game.

Your best option is to hang out at a Site of Lost Grace or find a safe location to chill in The Lands Between as you AFK.
