How to Play Rengar in League of Legends

Rengar has fallen off track at the start of League of Legends Season 11. Once the king of the jungle, Rengar now only has a 46.04% win rate in the jungle role. To have some success, players are taking our wild beast on the top lane.

In fact, the only champion Rengar beats in the jungle on a consistent basis is Nidalee, with a 52.50% win rate.

For a while, many long-time fans have been calling out Riot for changes to Rengar’s disappointing kit after his Season 8 overhaul left the Pridestalker worse off.

Thankfully, the devs have finally listened and rolled out a mini-rework on Rengar.

With the start of the 2022 Season, Riot released a patch that changed Rengar’s Unseen Predator (Passive). This made many fans happy as the trusty jungler can now perform better in the Rift.

Today, we will show you how to play Rengar in League of Legends.

Let’s begin!

Abilities

Rengar is an AD assassin jungler. He has a strong early game and clears up the jungle fast. Besides, he can also stay healthy using his heal from Battle Roar (W). Once Rengar reaches level 5 and has access to Thrill of the Hunt (R), he can become invisible and gank lanks.

Unseen Predator (Passive)

Unseen Predator

INNATE – Rengar generates 1 Ferocity every time he casts a basic ability or uses Savagery’s first attack. When he reaches 4 Ferocity, his next basic ability gets empowered, granting him an additional cast along with 30 / 40 / 50% (depends on level) bonus movement speed for 1.5 seconds.

However, this consumes Rengar’s Ferocity charges.

When you reach 4 Ferocity with Savagery or Bola Strike, it locks its empowered version from use for 0.1 seconds before and after casting it.

All Ferocity is lost after being out of combat for 8 seconds.

While in the brush, Rengar’s basic attacks gain increased range and cause him to leap to the target’s location, attacking the target and landing closer than his normal melee range. This effect lasts for 0.25 seconds upon exiting the brush.

However, the effect is removed immediately if Rengar uses Flash or Hexflash to leave the brush. Leaping with 0 Ferocity also generates 1 Ferocity.

INNATE (BONETOOTH NECKLACE) – Scoring a takedown against an enemy champion within 1.5 seconds of damaging them gives Rengar a Trophy, once per unique champion and up to 5.

Another one becomes available through the event The Hunt is On! Trophies grant 1-36% (depends on adjust size trophies) AD as bonus attack damage.

Savagery (Q)

ACTIVE – Rengar’s next two basic attacks within 3 seconds gain 40% bonus attack speed, with the first having uncancelable windup, gaining 25 bonus range, and dealing increased physical damage.

EMPOWERED ACTIVE – Savegry’s bonus physical damage is modified and grants Rengar 50 – 101% bonus attack speed that lasts for 5 seconds.

Battle Roar (W)

PASSIVE – Rengar stores 50% of the post-mitigation damage he took in the last 1.5 seconds as grey health on his HP bar increased to 100% damage taken from monsters.

ACTIVE – Rengar lets out a battle roar, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and 65 – 130 (depends on level) bonus magic damage to monsters and heals himself for the amount of grey health.

EMPOWERED ACTIVE – Battle Roar’s magic damage is modified and cleanses Rengar of all crowd control.

Bola Strike (E)

ACTIVE – Rengar throws a bola in the target direction, inflicting physical damage to the first enemy hit and slows them for 1.75 seconds.

EMPOWERED ACTIVE – Bola Strike’s physical damage is modified and roots its target for 1.75 seconds.

Thrill of the Hunt (R)

PASSIVE – Rengar gains Unseen Predator while camouflaged from any source.

ACTIVE – Rengar activates his predatory instincts, revealing the nearest enemy champion in a large radius and gaining bonus movement speed for the ability’s duration.

After 2 seconds, Rengar also becomes camouflaged and gains Unseen Predator for the remaining duration of the ability. His next basic attack within the normal attack range against any opponent deals 50% AD bonus physical damage and reduces the target’s armor for 4 seconds.

The nearest enemy to Rengar alerts all of their allies within 1200 range about his presence, and they can sense him up to 1600 units.

Attacking or casting abilities other than Savagery ends Thrill of the Hunt right away.

Rengar Gameplay

Rengar uses a mix of both Ad and tank items, allowing him to deal massive damage to enemies and survive significant damage bursts. He also has a relatively fast early jungle clear, meaning you can work your way around the jungle fast.

This gives you the chance to be aggressive when contesting the scuttle crabs in the river.

It’s best to start with the Red Brambleback when playing Rengar as he doesn’t need mana, and you don’t lose tons of health when clearing camps.

When farming, it’s best to use your Savagery (Q) when you have max charges of Ferocity. This gives you more attack speed, allowing for a faster jungle clear.

Here’s how you should clear the jungle in the early game:

  • Red Brambleback
  • Raptors
  • Blue Sentinel
  • Scuttle Crab 1 (in river)
  • Scuttle Crab 2 (opposite side)

Once you’ve cleared the Scuttle Crabs, you can decide if you want to go for a quick gank or continue farming the jungle.

Transitioning into the late game, you’ll want to take advantage of Rengar’s invisibility from his Thrill of the Hunt. Roam around the map and try to get as many solo kills as possible on the enemy carries.

This should give your team a huge advantage when it comes to pushing or securing objectives. If you manage to take out their carry, your team can force a team fight, putting the enemy team in an awkward position.

As a jungler, you have to keep an eye out of the Dragons, Rift Herald, and Baron. Securing these monsters will give your team an advantage.
