How to Play Ezreal in League of Legends

Want to learn how to play Ezreal in League of Legends?

With the recent changes in League of Legends, we’ve seen Ezreal go back up in the meta again. Ezreal has been a longtime favorite pick in the bottom lane, but in recent years, he hasn’t seen much attention.

Not until Riot made some changes to the game, which shifted the meta.

There’s a lot to appreciate with Ezreal’s kit. He has a high skill ceiling that is shot-oriented and has unparalleled lane mobility.

Ezreal is undoubtedly a champion that will make an impact in any given game. However, playing him can be confusing due to his versatile set. He can charge together with the frontline be an aggressive poker and kite enemies.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide on how to play Ezreal effectively in League of Legends.

Let’s begin!

Abilities

Ezreal is one of the few AD-carries in League of Legends who are best played as frontlines. Basically, you’ll be forced to charge ahead due to Ezreal’s short-range nature. His Mystic Shot and Essence Flux require you to get in your enemy’s face to land them with ease.

Rising Spell Force (Passive)

INNATE – Ezreal’s abilities grant him a stack of Rising Spell Force for every enemy hit, which stacks up to five times and lasts for six seconds, refreshing the stack duration on subsequent hits.

Each stack gives 10% bonus attack speed, which totals to 50% at five stacks.

Mystic Shot (Q)

Mystic Shot

ACTIVE – Ezreal fires a bolt of energy that deals physical damage to the first enemy hit and applies on-hit and on-attack effects at 100% effectiveness. If Mystic Shot hits an enemy, Ezreal’s abilities’ cooldowns are reduced by 1.5 seconds.

Essence Flux (W)

ACTIVE – Ezreal fires an orb in a direction that marks the first enemy champion, monster, or structure hit for 4 seconds. His next basic attack or ability against the affected unit detonates the mark, dealing magic damage.

Arcane Shift (E)

ACTIVE – After casting, Ezreal blinks from his current location up to 475 units towards the target location, firing a homing bolt that inflicts magic damage to the nearest opponent and briefly reveals them.

Arcane Shift also prioritizes targets hit by Essence Flux, and the bolt does not require the target to be visible.

Trueshot Barrage (R)

ACTIVE – Ezreal fires an energy projectile in the target direction, which grants sight on the area it flies through and deals magic damage to enemies hit along its path. Minions and monsters hit by Trueshot Barrage take 50% reduced damage.

Ezreal Gameplay

Ezreal is an AD carry that uses a mix of attack damage and ability power to take down enemies. His main source of damage comes from his kit. During the early game, Ezreal struggles to keep up in damage compared to other AD carries.

However, your Mystic Shot (Q) is a great way to stay safe while last hitting minions to gain EXP and Gold.

Once Ezreal gains his core items in the mid and late game, he’s able to stay within a safe range and take down enemies without taking too much damage.

In the early game, you can take advantage of Mystic Shot to secure last hits on minions. This should help you avoid trades without sacrificing EXP and Gold. This also stops the enemy bot lane from getting too close to your turret and attempting to kill you.

You can also combine Ezreal’s Essence Flux with either Mystic Shot, Arcane Shift, or basic attack to deal damage to enemy champions.

Although Ezreal has a weak early game, he has some abilities that can help you disengage from fights safely.

Once you get Ezreal’s core items, you can just sit back and poke out the enemy champions during team fights. Being an AD carry, it’s best that you stay with your team in the late game to secure kills and avoid getting ganked.

During clashes, you’d want to stay as far back from the enemies as possible and let your frontliners tank the damage.
