How to Activate Mohg’s Great Rune in Elden Ring

Do you need to activate Mohg’s Great Rune in Elden Ring?

In Elden Ring, one of the rewards players will get for taking down a major boss is their Great Rune. There are several Great Runes to collect in the game, each offering a different buff to your abilities after consuming a Rune Arc.

However, Great Runes must be activated first before they become viable in Elden Ring. Due to this, it can be annoying to get a new rune and realize it’s not actually doing you any good.

If you are reading this, we can assume that you have your sights on Mohg’s Great Rune but struggling to get and activate it.

To use a Great Rune, players must equip them at any Site of Grace and use Rune Arc, which is a very rare consumable in Elden Ring. After using the Rune Arc, the Great Rune will be activated until you die or activate another Great Rune.

Unfortunately, activating Great Runes in the game can be confusing, especially for new players.

To help out, we have decided to make a detailed guide on how to activate Mohg’ Great Rune in Elden Ring.

Let’s dive right in!

Obtaining Mohg’s Great Rune

Mohgs Great Rune in Elden Ring

Mohg’s Great Rune is dropped after slaying Mohg, Lord of Blood, in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. Reaching Mohg is a bit complicated, but Mohg’s Great Rune can be activated at the Divine Tower of East Altus, similar to Morgott.

This Great Rune in Elden Ring grants a blessing of blood to summons when activated. This means that whenever a summon kills an enemy, you’ll gain HP.

There are two ways to reach Mohg, which is located in an underground area in Caelid.

First Option

The first is to advance through White-Faced Varre’s NPC questline. Varre can be first found at the very beginning of the game, where he dunks on you for being maidenless.

After that, you can find him at the Rose Church, in the southwest portion of the lake in Liurnia.

There, he’ll give you some Festering Bloody Fingers. After invading other players thrice, he will reward you with the Lord of Blood’s favor item, which needs to be soaked in the blood of a maiden.

The nearest location to do this is at the Church of Inhibition in the northeastern portion of Liurnia.

Go back to Varre and he’ll give you a reusable Bloody Finger. Speak with him again and he’ll give you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Using this item will take you to Mohg, but if you do this early in the game, you will likely struggle to beat Mohg,

Second Option

The second option is available after getting to the Grand Lift of Rold and using the Secret Haligtree Medallion. The first half of the Secret Medallion can be found in the Village of the Albinuarics, given by an NPC hiding in a pot.

The second portion of the Medallion can be found in Castle Sol in the northern part of the eastern section of the Mountaintops of the Giants.

You can find this in Castle Sol after beating the boss, Commander Niall.

With both halves, head to the Grand Lift of Rold and choose the option to use the secret medallion, which will take you to the western portion of Mountaintops of the Giants.

In this area, head towards the western cliff in the middle section, just north of the Yelough Anix Ruins. Here, you can find the teleport gate, which will take you to the underground section where Mohg is located.

That wraps up our guide on how to active Mohg’s Great Rune in Elden Ring. If you have further questions, please leave a comment below, and we’ll do our best to help.
