Juggernaut is a melee carry hero whose ultimate ability makes him unstoppable. It is, no doubt, one of the most powerful abilities in the entire game. This ability is what makes Juggernaut such a frightening hero. However, there is no need to worry. In this article, we will tell you all about the best Juggernaut counters in Dota 2.
From the early game to the late game, his abilities allow him to dominate the battlefield. He is great for both beginner players as well as Professionals. Since his abilities provide bonus perks such as spell immunity and invulnerability, he can be unstoppable if not countered properly.
The hero relies on his ultimate to secure kills during the early game. If shut-down during that phase, it leads to a trickle-down effect that secures your late game against him. However, a good Juggernaut will find a way around that and farm to the best of his capacity. Since he is a carry hero, it’s always best to deny him Experience and Gold.
Let’s begin our guide to the Juggernaut Counters in Dota 2.
Juggernaut
Yurnero, also known as the Juggernaut, is an agility-type hero. His first ability is the Blade Fury. This allows Juggernaut to spin within a radius, damaging enemy heroes in the vicinity while making him immune to magic. It lasts for up to 5 seconds and can also be used to escape assaults.
During the early phase of the game, this ability allows Juggernaut to quickly clear creep waves and camps. His second ability, the Healing Ward heals all allies within a radius. It is a good ability to use when fighting heroes like Legion Commander to heal yourself even during duels. This ability also allows Juggernaut to push towers early on, creating space for him to farm.
Blade Dance is a passive ability that has a chance to deal critical damage to enemy heroes. This ability works well with items like Battle Fury that cut down creeps waves in a couple of hits.
Lastly, Juggernaut’s ultimate ability is Omnislash. This ability has a duration of 3 seconds, but those are more than enough to kill single target heroes. What makes this ability deadly is that Juggernaut cannot be interrupted or stopped when using this ability. Making it very hard to counter once it’s been cast.
Buying items like Mjollnir and Desolator add to the overall damage done by Omnislash. After level 6, Juggernaut can start rotating. Finding lone enemy heroes to use Omnislash on, and farming once it’s on cooldown.
Counters
Dota 2 is a game of strategy and tactics. It’s important to know your enemy’s weaknesses to exploit them to the maximum degree. Similarly, here’s a list of heroes that counter Juggernaut.
Winter Wyvern
Winter Wyvern is an incredible counter to Juggernaut. In the hands of the right player, this hero can prove to be a menace both in the early and late game. During the laning stage, you must play as Position 4 as Juggernaut will always take the safe lane to get the maximum farm.
During that stage, using abilities like Splinter Blast can really drain Juggernaut’s HP. Forcing him to level up the healing ward early on. That way, he loses his ability to farm efficiently by using the Blade Fury. This trickles down to a late Battle Fury, making things even harder for the carry hero.
Another great ability is the Cold Embrace. This protects heroes against Omnislash. This is especially powerful during the late game where the Omnislash is a death sentence. This is why Winter Wyvern is an essential asset during late-game team fights.
Legion Commander
Legion Commander is another great counter to Juggernaut. She is a carry hero that needs to win duels to maximize her damage output. Her duel ability counters Juggernaut as it pierces spell immunity.
Juggernaut is a very elusive hero that can use his Blade Fury to escape. Since Legion Commander can Duel him even during that move, Juggernaut is helpless against her. Using Duel on Juggernaut also means that he cannot use Omnislash or Healing Ward for the duration. This makes him exceptionally weak, relying only on his stats. If your Legion Commander is built right, she will always win against him in a Duel.
Axe
Axe is a very strong counter to Juggernaut for multiple reasons. Being an agility hero, Juggernaut has a naturally high attack speed. This makes it easy for Axe to use Berserker’s Call on him and force Counter Helix. This immediately lowers Juggernaut’s health to critical levels.
Berserker’s Call also works while Blade Fury is active. Hence, Juggernaut cannot use it to escape or teleport away. Since it also provides Axe with additional armor, it allows him to withstand the damage dealt by Omnislash. Something not many heroes are capable of.
Finally, Axe’s ultimate ability Culling Blade also goes through Blade Fury. Meaning that should Juggernaut’s health drop below a certain threshold, Axe can instantly kill him.
Pugna
Pugna may be a squishy hero, but his abilities make him a great counter to Juggernaut. Starting with Decrepify, when used on an enemy hero, renders them unable to attack or be attacked by Physical Damage. For Juggernaut, this means he cannot use his Omnislash while this ability is active on him.
Additionally, Pugna has a high movement speed, which will always allow him to escape Juggernaut’s Blade Fury damage. Juggernaut also has a low health and mana pool since he is an Agility hero. This means that abilities like the Nether Ward hurt him far worse whenever he uses an ability.
Pudge
Pudge is a great counter hero because he can disable any enemy hero for a long duration using Dismember. With good team coordination, this is enough to kill most enemy heroes. Similarly, while Juggernaut is being dismembered, he cannot use his abilities.
Should he predict Pudge’s attacks and use Blade Fury, Pudge can hook him. This displaces Juggernaut and stops him from escaping. Additionally, since Dismember pierces spell immunity, Blade Fury is no good against him.
This makes Juggernaut a dangerous draft against Pudge.
Mars
Mars is a melee strength hero who has high defensive capabilities. Using his Bulwark ability, he can defend against damage by Juggernaut. This goes for Omnislash as well. By severely reducing its damage Mars can withstand the attack. Especially since Omnislash changes its direction with each consecutive attack.
Mars is a strong hero who can tank the hits for his teammates; however since Blade Fury has spell immunity, Juggernaut can use it to escape from Mars’s Arena of Blood. Therefore, it’s always better to time the move once the ability is on cooldown.
Ursa
Ursa is a strong melee hero that not many heroes can go toe-to-toe with. His Fury Swipes make him a strong damage dealer. Similarly, Blade Fury does not protect against Fury Swipes. This means that the longer Juggernaut fights against Ursa, the more HP he loses.
Enrage is another great ability that reduces the damage taken by Ursa. Using it at the right time protects Ursa against Omnislash. And since Juggernaut cannot afford to fight Ursa face-to-face, he’ll have to retreat.
In the late game, by purchasing the Abyssal Blade, Ursa can stun Juggernaut and kill him, making him a very dangerous opponent.
Outworld Devourer
Outworld Devourer is an amazing right-clicker hero. His ability to bypass enemy armor while dealing them pure damage makes him hard to deal with. The same goes for Juggernaut since he has a low HP pool. If he’s not careful, Outworld Devourer could kill him simply by his right-click attacks.
Juggernaut’s Omnislash may not be useful in a fight against Outworld Devourer as he could simply use Astral Imprisonment. This way, he negates all the damage caused by Omnislash, protecting himself or his allies in the process.
Additionally, the low mana pool means that Juggernaut may end up taking a lot of damage from Sanity’s Eclipse. It may even kill him if he’s not careful enough.
Windranger
Windranger is an agility-type hero. She has an interesting set of abilities that allow her to counter Juggernaut. Her Windrun gives her increased movement speed and evasion. This protects her from all kinds of Physical damage attacks, which means that Omnislash does not affect her.
She can use this move to also run out of Blade Fury’s damage radius. Protecting her from its damage. However, her abilities are not only defensive against Juggernaut. Using her ultimate ability, Focus Fire, she can chase down and kill Juggernaut. This move bypasses Blade Fury, so Juggernaut has no way of escaping her as she follows him around and deals damage.
These two abilities of Windranger make her one of the best Juggernaut Counters in Dota 2.
Chaos Knight
Chaos Knight is a Strength type hero, meaning he has a large HP pool. This makes it hard to kill him, especially if he has the Armlet of Mordiggian. Not only is Chaos Knight hard to kill, but his critical damage makes him great at dealing damage as well. He can use his Chaos Bolt and Reality Rift to kill Juggernaut.
Omnislash works for all heroes on sight. Since Chaos Knight can call forth his phantoms, the damage gets disbursed between the illusions. This makes the ability pointless to use on him as he receives little to no damage. This is why Chaos Knight is such a great counter to Juggernaut.
