Wondering how you can fish in Dinkum?
Dinkum is a fun but challenging farming simulator available on Steam. Players worldwide can enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities in this simulator, including fishing. However, this task or feature is surprisingly tricky, and many players struggle to learn the basics when trying to reel in marine life.
Fishing in Dinkum is also a way to expand on the Pedia, a handy guide in the game that logs all wildlife, plants, and mining materials found on the island.
Players can earn Dinks, the currency used on the island, and get Permit Points that can open other activities like mining, logging, and fishing. However, players will have to secure a license for these tasks, which include fishing.
If you are new to the game, we understand if you are having a hard time figuring out how you can start fishing.
In this guide, we will show you how to fish in Dinkum and what you need to get started.
Let’s begin!
Securing a Fishing License

As we’ve mentioned above, players who want to perform various activities in Dinkum will have to first secure a license, and this applies to Fishing. If you want to obtain a fishing license, you’ll have to speak to Fletch, the business office manager, and exchange Permit Points for licenses.

You can harvest plants, gather seashells, or catch bugs to complete milestones that will earn you these.
Whenever you achieve a milestone, the second tier opens up, usually increasing the number of items needed before you can get more Permit Points. To be exact, you’ll need 255 Permit Points to get a fishing license.
Getting a Fishing Rod
Once you have the necessary requirements to go fishing, you’ll have to get yourself a fishing rod. To do this, you’ll have to pay John a visit and buy a fishing rod using the Dinks you have earned.
You can earn Dinks in Dinkum by selling anything you find on the island to John.

He will show up on your second day on the island. John stays at the visitor center and sells items like shovels, bug-catching nets, axes, and fishing rods. The best thing about John is that he will buy all the materials you’ll find just by walking around the island.
The fishing rod you’ll need costs 1260 Dinks.
How to Fish in Dinkum
Unfortunately, getting your fishing license and the fishing rod is the easiest part of fishing. Players can fish in any body of water near the island, and there are some small islands a short swim away.
Fishes in Dinkum are visible in the water, so find a spot that gives good access to them. Once you find a spot, here’s what you need to do:
- Choose the Fishing Rod from your item list.
- Now, throw the reel towards the fish. Right-clicking and holding the mouse button will allow you to throw it further.
- After that, wait until the fish’s attention is on the rod. You’ll know you have a catch when the bobber is moving up and down.
- Start reeling when the fish splashes, or it will escape.

As you reel, keep an eye out for the stamina bar. This is the crucial part while fishing in Dinkum. When the fishing stamina bar runs out, the fish will get away. The key thing to remember is that your stamina bar will deplete quickly if you reel the fish while it is pulling away. Continue this process until you catch the fish.
If you are still fairly new to fishing or Dinkum in general, expect to lose a few of the first fish you’ll have a go at. Don’t let this discourage you, as catching fish comes easy once you get the hang of it.
