How to Get to the Sandbox in Grounded

In many ways, Grounded is very different compared to Obsidian Entertainment’s usual type of games. Instead of a fantasy or sci-fi game, Grounded can be seen as a tribute to the 90s adventure film Honey I Shrunk The Kids and Ant Bully. 

On the other hand, there are also some similarities with Obsidian’s previous titles, like the focus on adventure and exploration. 

Being a few inches tall, a single backyard is almost a country, and a small step can become an insurmountable hurdle. This is more evident with the Sandbox Biome, introduced in Grounded’s Hot and Hazy update.

Today, we will show you how you can get to the Sandbox Biome in Grounded.

Positioning the Shovel

The main factor to entering the Sandbox Biome is not actually anything involving the Sandbox itself. Instead, players will need to climb the nearby picnic table to get inside the latest biome in Grounded. 

Sadly, the height problem is even worse here. At the table’s southeast corner is a leaning shovel, propped up against a cracked rock. If you blow up the rock using a bratwurst or splatburst, the shove will fall over. 

This should form a bridge to the bench seat. 

Getting Up the Table

The half-eaten lunch at the table is a beacon for Grounded’s bees, so fans should be careful while climbing. Once you are on the seat, you should head to the other side of the table, away from the shovel, banana, and bees. 

From there, cross the wooden bar that runs under the table and connects the opposite seats of the table. 

The far seat should have a stack of off-brand Dungeons and Dragons books that form a ramp to a cooler. The handle should currently be standing straight up. If you hit the red button on the side, the handle should drop to the side, forming another ramp to the table’s top. 

Entering the Sandbox

There are several things worth checking out on top of the picnic table, but for this guide, the most important area is under the overturned orange book. Hidden under it are a new field station and a pre-set zipline that leads straight into the sandbox. 

Players will need 12 silk ropes to make the zipline usable, so they should kill a few of Grounded’s spiders before making this trek. 

Players should also be careful before ending the sandbox. Not only is it guarded by hostile antlions, but the area also subjects players to the sizzle effect. During the daytime, the sands are hot enough to slow down and damage your character. 

The sizzle effect can be offset with antlion armor, mint shards, or Grounded’s Fresh Defense mutation.
