How to Get More Stores in Dinkum

Wondering how you can get more stores in Dinkum?

Exploring the island and interacting with all sorts of wild animals is fun and all, but some human interaction in Dinkum would be nice. However, you’ll have to work hard to grow a town from nothing in the game.

Building houses is not even the first step. It is about establishing a good relationship with the visitors to the island.

John is the first NPC you’ll encounter in the game. Fletch will provide you with your first big project, which is convincing John to stay on the island permanently. After making John a permanent resident, you’ll want more people in your town.

If not for the companionship, you’ll probably want more residents on the island for all the useful stores they’ll establish.

Visitors occasionally show up in the tent near your dock. This tent is your ticket to a bustling village. Rayne sells all things garden, and Theodore is like Blathers from Animal Crossing.

Today, we will show you how to get more stores in Dinkum.

Let’s begin!

Making John a Resident

Before you can make any progress in your town, you’ll have to make John a permanent resident first. To do this, you have to spend a decent amount of Dinks at his shop and do some requests for him.

While there is no specific amount of Dinks needed to be paid, you’ll just have to make sure that you buy all the things you need from him. Besides, you’ll need all he has to offer during the early game since you have nothing just yet.

To accomplish side tasks for NPCs, you must speak with them and ask to have a little chat. From there, you can ask them if they need anything.

This should prompt a side task that will be recorded in your journal in case you forget. Keep in mind that all side quests must be completed within the same day, or they get canceled. Failure to complete an NPC request can decrease your relationship with them.

Pay Island Debts

Once John agrees to move in, you will be able to place his shop anywhere you wish on the island. This isn’t the end of the work, however. With John’s Goods becoming a real shop, your island’s debt will build up.

Much like in Animal Crossing, you will have to pay off the debt of John’s moving in before you can invite more NPCs to your island. To make things simpler, you can’t get more villagers until you have paid off the debt for moving John into your island.

To pay off the island’s debt, you’ll have to grind for Dinks. We’ve made a separate guide on how to earn Dinks fast if you are interested.

In general, you can try selling everything you find on the island in exchange for Dinks. You can also do NPC requests, which also occasionally give Dinks as rewards.

Recruit Other Visitors

After paying off your island’s debt, you can now start recruiting other visitors. Wait for a visitor to come over to the visitor’s tent. It will be hard to recruit other NPCs on the first day of meeting them since you’ll have to establish a relationship first.

Similar with John, the most effective way of doing this is by purchasing items from their store often.

Whenever there is a visitor, make sure to complete a side task for them and buy what you can to increase the odds of them moving to your island. Once they are ready, they will bring it up when you speak with them.

From there, you can repeat the process mentioned above until you have enough residents on your island.
