How to Get Magic Spells in Elden Ring

Want to know how you can get magic spells in Elden Ring?

Although Elden Ring resembles other Soulsborne titles from FromSoftware, it features a few changes that give it a unique feel. For instance, magic and spells in Elden Ring have been significantly buffed.

Unlike other Soulsborne games, it takes a while for sorcery builds to become powerful.

Now, magic in Elden Ring takes many forms, from sorceries and incantations to dragon magic and pyromancy.

The volume of choices can be overwhelming even for veteran Souls players.

Luckily, getting into magic builds in the game is straightforward. All you’ll need is the spell you want to use, a spell slot, the required stats, and staff or seal.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide on how to get magic spells in Elden Ring.

Let’s get right into it!

Getting the Stats and Tool

Before you can use magic in Elden Ring, you’ll need to have the correct stats first. Sorceries and the weapons required to cast them require you to have some level of intelligence depending on the weapon and ability.

Due to this, it’s crucial to invest in your Intelligence stat if you want to shift to a magic or sorcery build.

Incantations, on the other hand, use Sacred Seals and heavily relies on your Faith stat. There are also a few Seals and Incantations that take a small amount of Intelligence or Arcane as a secondary stat.

However, the requirement for Intelligence and Arcane stats is significantly lower than your Faith stat.

Equipping Your Spells

Obviously, you cannot cast magic in Elden Ring if you don’t have the spell you want in your inventory. Once you got the spell you want to use, sit at any Site of Grace you can find. Choose the “Memorize Spell” option to equip a spell on a vacant slot.

Most spells in Elden Ring can be found by exploring The Lands Between. Powerful abilities like the Comet Azure are also scattered across the world of Elden Ring.

A handful of magic spells can also be purchased from NPC merchants like Sellen, Rogier, and Corhyn. These NPCs are usually found in the Roundtable Hold, but some are also elsewhere.

Bonus tip: If you want to cast fire magic or powerful range attacks, the Sword of Night and Flame is an excellent choice for Faith and Intelligence builds.

Have Some Memory Slots

In Elden Ring, no stat indicates how many spells you can equip. However, you need to collect Memory Stones from various Rise buildings scattered across The Lands Between.

Some of these, like Ranni’s Rise, are located in Liurnia of the Lakes, which you’ll visit during Ranni’s questline.

Every Memory Stone you find increases your character’s spell capacity. Currently, there are at least 10 Memory Stones available, which is nowhere near the number of spells you can equip your character.

Using Magic in Elden Ring

After getting all the requirements mentioned above, all that’s left for you to do is have the spell selected on your quick bar while playing and use the ability. You can press Up on your D-Pad to change your magic, incantation, or sorcery.

Once you have the spell you need, have your casting tool at hand, then use the assigned attack button for that hand.

The spell should go off in whatever form it takes.

For some spells, you can charge it for a specific amount of time for a powerful attack or simply press the trigger for a quick cast ability.
