Looking for the best Wretch build to use in Elden Ring?
The Wretch class in Elden Ring can be considered a blank canvas as it offers players limitless options for designing their desired character that starts with equally divided stats.
Whether you are planning to build the best character from scratch or use experimental and unorthodox builds, the Wretch class is the perfect blueprint to start with. While there isn’t a specific build that works perfectly with Wretch, the class gives you a blank canvas to work on your masterpiece.
In addition, the Wretch class features an equal ten stats to all of its attributes with any build readily available for you.
The downside, however, is that the Wretch class has no starting equipment. This means that this class isn’t recommended for beginners. Given the free will you have with this character, you’ll likely get confused with its gameplay if it is your first time playing.
To help out Elden Ring players, we’ve decided to make a guide for the best Wretch build you can use in the game.
Let’s get started!
Wretch Class Overview
If you’re looking for a melee build in Elden Ring, you’re better off picking any of the preset builds like Hero and Warrior classes. It is also best to steer clear of any tank builds for the Wretch class since you have some stats that are not necessary for the build, like Mind and Faith.
Since other classes like Bandit and Vagabond already have their stats distributed for the tank build, it is not necessary to alot your points in a similar way.

Instead, you can use the Wretch class to improve the stats of other preset classes like Bandit to create a versatile character that can adapt to any playstyle. Though your character growth would be slow, you’ll feel the rewards in the later stages of the game.
In addition, weapon requirements and damage scaling can also help direct you on the right path for your build.
Although the Wretch class starts with equal stats, players will want to consider taking a Prisoner or Astrologer-like build for this class. Since the Wretch class has high Faith, Intelligence, and Mind stats, it has the upper hand when it comes to a first melee mage or spell-casting mage.
A spell-casting Wretch, on the other hand, should focus primarily on its Intelligence and Mind stats, and its secondary stats would be Vigor and Endurance.
On the other hand, a melee mage build can give you some exciting combos. For this build, you’ll focus on upgrading your Intelligence and Vigor stats. Focus and Dexterity come second for this build.
Building the Best Wretch Character
The Wretch class is best suited for building a character that combines the strengths of various classes. It can also work for creating an enhanced Samurai build that packs Bandit-like traits and abilities.
Now, the best Samurai build in Elden Ring focuses on increasing Dexterity, Strength, and Intelligence. This is followed by Vigor and Endurance stats that are supported by Talismans.

Bandit builds have a similar stat upgrade path but may lean over the Arcane stat than Intelligence. You can combine both of these traits in a Wretch class, increasing Dexterity, Intelligence, and Arcane first, while Endurance and Vigor come second.
On the other hand, Strength could also be increased if needed.
Like the Samurai build, the Wretch class sticks to Vigor and Endurance-boosting Talismans while using Katanas as primary weapons.

Increased Dexterity also allows you to use a handful of daggers, similar to Bandit classes in Elden Ring. This Wretch build requires some experience to be effective and will take you some time to be familiar with stamina management.
