Shen – Top Lane

Shen is one of the best picks for solo queues due to his ability to dominate the map. His ultimate, Stand United, allows Shen to shield his allies and teleport to their location to back them up on ganks. 

Shen also has extraordinary trading abilities built into his skill set. Since you’re playing solo, having a champion that can exchange blows is helpful as you don’t have friends to rely on. 

His passive Ki Barrier gives him protection, and his Spirit’s Refuge blocks basic attacks from opponents. Twilight Assault, on the other hand, helps Shen deal bonus damage with his auto-attacks. 

If that’s not enough, he also has mobility and crowd control spells that can be used to taunt enemies or survive ganks. 

Hecarim – Jungler

Hecarim is also another excellent champion for solo queues. As a jungler, his AoE damage from Rampage and Spirit of Dread abilities makes it easier for you to clear jungle camps fast. Damage dealt by Spirit of Dread also heals Hecarim, allowing you to sustain a healthy clear. 

Devastating Charge gives Hecarim movement speed, which is helpful in setting up ganks. It also comes with a knockback once the movement speed expires. 

Lastly, Hecarim’s Onslaught of Shadows helps you close the gap in gank situations and provides crowd control with fear effect. 

Akali – Mid

For mid laners, you’ll never go wrong with Akali during solo queues. While she doesn’t have a global ultimate like Shen, she offers a lot of roaming potential for stacking up kills in the early phase. 

She can also push waves quickly using her Five Point Strike, giving you more time to focus on other objectives. 

When ganking the top or bottom lane, you’ll have to travel the rivers. Fortunately, Akali has several tools to ensure her safety when ganking. Shuriken Flip and Perfect Execution can get you over walls and create distance from enemies. 

On the other hand, Twilight Shroud buys you time to reset your skills and wait for your allies. 

Caitlyn – Bot

When playing solo queues, the bottom lane is one of the most challenging roles to play. Having two enemies in one lane creates so many fight scenarios all the time. Not to mention the risk of getting ganked by the jungler or mid-lane. 

It can also be frustrating if you can’t communicate with your support to coordinate your strategies.

However, the tradeoff for her excellent range is that Caitlyn does not deal much spell damage. Her Piltover Peacemaker ability prevents him from attacking, and none of her abilities are much of a use in team fights. 

Morgana – Support

Morgana isn’t a typical support that offers healing or shield for her carry. However, her skill set makes her a great fit for solo queues where coordination isn’t expected. She has crowd control abilities and damage with her Dark Binding and Soul Shackles ultimate. 

This makes you a kill threat in your lane even without the help of your AD Carry.  

On the other hand, she can also go on the defensive side by making her bottom lane ally immune to crowd control effects using Black Shield. Her Tormented Soil can also help shove lanes out when going for a lane reset.
