These mini-bosses serve as an introduction to the game’s mechanics. 

One of these bosses is the Soldier of Godrick, who is probably the first boss you’ll face following the encounter with Grafted Scion. 

The Soldier of Godrick is found in the Stranded Graveyard, which is the location you’ll spawn into after facing Grafted Scion. From there, you’ll see a spirit and a hole in the ground. The spirit will encourage you to dive into the hole. 

Now, you’ll have to proceed through a few passageways that also acts as the game’s tutorial area. After completing the prerequisite tutorials, you’ll face the Soldier of Godrick.

Defeating the Soldier of Godrick

The Soldier of Godrick has 384 HP, wields a massive sword, and boasts a couple of moves that can definitely throw you off-balance if not careful. Magic users like Prophets and Astrologers might struggle more with this boss than melee characters. 

For players who decide to go for a Samurai build and use a short bow, they will struggle as well. 

Once you start the fight, you’ll notice that the Soldier of Godrick is quite aggressive with its sword. Although most of its moves are predictable, the Soldier of Godrick does not perform them in a specific order. 

This means that it can perform a random three-hit combo that can quickly catch you off-guard. 

Fortunately, the Soldier of Godrick’s attacks has a long and slow windup due to the massive sword it’s wielding. 

Since there’s no way to tell which combo it will use, it’s best to keep your distance from the Soldier of Godrick. 

Magic Gameplay

As mentioned earlier, magic users will have a hard time fighting this boss. Astrologers should keep a reasonable distance from the boss as much as possible while casting their spells along the way. 

One way to deal quick damage to the Soldier of Godrick is to start casting your spells as soon as you enter the arena. 

The Soldier of Godrick will take 3 – 4 seconds before it reaches you at the start of the battle, giving you enough time to get off a few spells before running in the other direction to dodge its attacks. 

If you’re a Prophet, you can try casting your flame incantation up close and quickly dodge away. 

As with most bosses in Elden Ring, you should only launch your attacks if the boss is chasing you or after its attacks.

Melee Gameplay

For melee players, there are a few options available on how you can tackle this encounter in Elden Ring. The first option is to simply brute force your way through the boss. Try spamming light attacks and dodge as fast as you can once the Soldier of Godrick is rearing up to attack. 

However, expect to take a few hits from the Soldier of Godrick if you decide to go this route. Nonetheless, you should be able to take out the boss before your HP runs out. 

If you prefer a safer strategy, you can try breaking the Soldier of Godrick’s posture using your heavy attacks. A heavy attack should deal around 1/3 of the Soldier’s HP and stagger it for a few seconds. 

During this time, you can utilize your light attacks or charge up for another heavy attack to deal even more damage.
