Want to know how you can beat Rennala in Elden Ring?
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon and mother to Ranni the Witch, is the fourth main boss you’ll encounter in Elden Ring. After slaying Margit, the Fell Omen, Godrick the Grafted, and Red Wolf of Radagon, it will finally be time for you to take on the demigod sorceress.
This fight can be tricky, but with the right plan of attack, you’ll have Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, begging for mercy.
You’ll find Rennala in the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria Academy, which can be accessed by taking the elevator behind the Moongrum, Carian Knight.
For players who haven’t reached Raya Lucaria, it is the massive castle located in the center of Liurnia of the Lakes.
In this guide, we will show you how to beat Rennala in Elden Ring.
Let’s get right into it!
Beating Rennala, Queen of the Moon
Rennala is a boss that has two distinct phases. Its first phase can feel daunting at first, but it is actually straightforward once you try it a couple of times. Rennala will float in the air with a golden sphere around her, and she will be immune to all attacks.
To get her to drop to the floor and become vulnerable, players must defeat three of the students on the floor that have a yellow glowing aura around them.
These students will also hurl purple books at you, so they are fairly hard to miss.
After defeating three of these students or the golden aura around them has been broken, Rennala should fall to the ground. This is when you’ll want to pump as much damage into her as you can.
This boss is resistant to magic, so it is advised to use a weapon that deals physical damage for both phases of the fight.
After a brief period, she’ll start glowing yellow. This means that Rennala is about to return to her golden sphere form. However, be mindful that she releases a large damaging spell before returning to the air.
Due to this, we suggest that you retreat from the boss as soon as you see her attempt to fly. Repeat the process above until you reach the second phase.
The second phase of the fight will start after a short cutscene before you are transported to a massive pool with a moon in the background. This is when Rennala will use the full extent of her magical abilities to rain chaos on you.
Most of the time, she’ll start the second phase by charging up a beam attack.
However, you can easily avoid this if you timed your dodge right. To avoid this beam attack, simply roll before Rennala releases her attack. If you roll a bit early, just keep rolling until the beam is finished.
The key to beating Rennala during this phase is to be as aggressive as possible.
Most of her ranged spells can be avoided by sprinting or rolling directly into the boss. One ability that you should keep an eye out for is her Full Moon spell.
When she attempts this spell, Rennala will float into the air and turn into a moon for a few seconds before launching at you. The moon moves very slowly, but once it lands, it has a fairly large AoE radius.
During the time it is heading toward you, we advise that you back off from the boss.
Once you get Rennala’s HP down to 50%, she’ll start summoning spirits to aid her. These spirits only last for a few seconds, and most can be completely ignored by kiting them away from Rennala before rushing her again.
The only summon that you should look out for is her dragon. For this, it is best to back off from here and wait for it to despawn.
