How to Beat Kel’Thuzad in World of Warcraft

Do you need to beat Kel’thuzad in World of Warcraft?

Kel’Thuzad is the chief lieutenant of the mighty Lich King and once a sorcerer of the Kirin Tor of Dalaran. He ruled over the Eastern Plaguelands from his citadel of Naxxramas in World of Warcraft.

Being a former sorcerer, Kel’Thuzad was one of the principal agents of the Lich King behind the spreading of the Plague of Undeath across Lordaeron. After being killed by Arthas during the Third War, Kel’Thuzad was reborn as a lich.

He then aided Arthas in summoning Archimonde, a powerful lord of the Burning Legion. However, his loyalty was to the Lich King and not the Burning Legion.

After the Legion’s defeat, Kel’Thuzad rallied alongside Arthas in wresting power from the Dreadlords. After Arthas left for Northrend, he assigned Kel’Thuzad as his agent to command the Scourge in Lordaeron.

Kel’Thuzad is also the final boss of the reworked raid dungeon Naxxramas in Wrath of the Lich King encounter.

Today, we will show you the best strategy to beat Kel’Thuzad in World of Warcraft.

Let’s get right into it!

Kel’Thuzad 10-Man Encounter

The 10-man version of Kel’Thuzad is way easier than the 25-man encounter. This raid should be manageable as long as you can kill Sapphiron. Since Guardians do not hit that hard on the 10-Man raid and the boss can’t target the main tank with Frost Blast, the main tank can pick up the Guardians and tank them along with Kel’Thuzad.

This should eliminate the possibility of the offtank being Frost Blasted while taking damage from the Guardians, which usually results in death.

Kel’Thuzad’s abilities in a 10-Man raid consist of single-target Frost Bolts that can be interrupted, raid-wide Frost Bolts that need to be healed, Mana Detonation, and Shadow Fissure.

Healers should keep the raid topped off and heal the players targeted by Frost Bolt immediately.

Assign one healer for the tank, one or two healers to watch for Frost Blast, and AoE heals for raid-wide Frost Bolts. Healers for the multiple Frost Bolts should stand near the center to have access to the entire raid.

Healers should also be ready to heal other healers in case of Frost Blasts and fill in for each other when needed.

After picking up the ADS, this encounter is basically a DPS race since the Guardians get bigger and hit harder over time.

Kel’Thuzad 25-Man Encounter

For the 25-Man encounter with Kel’Thuzad, you’ll need one main tank and 2-3 offtanks for the Guardian of Icecrown. It’s also worth noting that no ability in this encounter can be removed by PvP trinkets, Ice Blocks, Divine Shield, or Cloak of Shadows.

In the first phase, the raid needs to stack in the center of Kel’Thuzad’s room. Melee players should start engaging the Unstoppable Abominations while ranged players take care of Soldiers of the Frozen Wastes and Soul Weavers.

After 15 seconds from Kel’Thuzad’s aggro emote, he will become active.

It’s crucial for the entire raid to spread out before this occurs to lessen the effects of Mana Detonation and Frost Blast.

Mana Detonation from Kel’Thuzad will come every 20-25 seconds, Shadow Fissure will be cast every 15-20 seconds, and Frost Blast every 45-60 seconds.

The primary tank should lure Kel’Thuzad to the center during the second phase, and melee classes should stack in three carnival points around the boss’s hitbox. Melee players should be at max range and spread out to lessen the players hit by Frost Blast.
