How to Beat Archmage Arugal in World of Warcraft

Are you looking for the best strategy to beat Archmage Arugal in World of Warcraft?

Shadowfang Keep is a haunted keep in the southern Silverpine Forest, near Pyrewood Village in World of Warcraft. It’s the headquarters for the evil archmage Arugal and his Worgen progeny.

Pyrewood Village is shadowed to the north by Shadowfang Keep, once a bastion of Alliance power but now the dark residence of a mad mage of the Kirin Tor named Arugal. The Worgen that stalks the Keep and the cursed villagers of Pyrewood are the doings of Archmage Arugal.

SFK or Shadowfang Keep is the first challenging instance that players will likely encounter in World of Warcraft.

Besides the volume of mobs present, several of the mobs here cast various curses, and almost all types of Worgen have some kind of unique ability that affects the entire raid’s capacity to deal with them.

Undead Humans in this encounter also use Silence, which exposes your tanks without healing in some instances of the fight.

Today, we have decided to make a guide on how to beat Archmage Arugal in World of Warcraft.

Without further delays, let’s get started!

Archmage Arugal Strategy

Arugal is no doubt the most challenging entry-level boss. Fortunately, some changes in patch 2.3.0 made him reasonably easy to defeat by a good group. Unlike other bosses, Archmage Arugal is more than a simple tank and spank/CC.

During this encounter, Archmage Arugal will use three abilities. The Void Bolt, Teleport, and a werewolf control ability that turns one of your raid members into a Worgen.

Void Bolts

Void Bolts are quite powerful, which can deal up to 255 DMG to players. Archmage Arugal is also capable of killing raid members in three to four shots. Due to this, tanks and other players with high HP count are the only ones who can survive constant aggro from him.

The raid will enter Arugal’s room on top of a raised platform that is out of Arugal’s aggro range.

This platform will go around the right side of the room, and the room will go down to the floor below you, where you’ll find three Sons of Arugal. On a small raised platform across will be Arugal’s position.

Teleport

In some instances, Arugal will teleport to the other raised platform. However, we suggest not to chase him since he’ll go back after a few seconds, and your melee can catch DPS once he teleports back.

Your ranged DPS should continue attacking, however, and your healer should keep spamming heals until he goes back.

If your raid has a Priest or Warlock, use Mana Burn or Drain Mana on Archmage Arugal. If he runs out of mana, he can no longer cast Void Bolts, and his threat to the raid is almost eliminated.

Classes with interruption abilities such as Warriors, Shamans, and Feral Druids should try to stop Archmage Arugal from casting as much as possible.

Worgen

The other mechanic that you should be aware of in this encounter is the Worgen ability. When a raid member gets transformed, they will start attacking other members, and they should be Polymorphed or feared right away.

Worgen only lasts for 10 seconds, but there’s a chance for transformed party members to heal Arugal.
